CHURCH BANNERS

CHRISTMAS BANNERS - 2012
This is what might be called a Triptich (three panels). The design was first done on the computer. Then transferred to 3' x 6' paper by projecting the image. The images were traced would become our patterns.
Each panel is 3'x 6' and the three of them span 10'.
The background fabrics are satins, silks and chiffons in shades of blue appliquéd to a white fabric background.
(center panel)

The nativity characters and star were made as separate pieces and iridescent whites and light blue fabrics were used.

(left panel)                                                                                                                             (right panel)

Embellishment were gold braids, sequence, crystals and pearls.
The fabrication was done over a period of four months with six people working on it.

My dear friends, Edith Southerton, Sue Franjione, Judy Watson, Lerryn Latimer,
our master seamstress Nancy Volz and Dorothy Schawk, designer,
worked on this project for about 15 weeks.

EASTER BANNER - 2008

This banner was one of our first proud efforts. I was the designer and my good friend, Nancy Volz was the seamstress. We enjoyed selecting the fabrics and Nancy was thrilled when the iridescent blues and orchids took on a three dimensional effect as she machine sewed the veins in the butterfly. This, as the banners above, was truly a labor of love.

  1. As exquisite as they appear in photos, to see them up close and personal is breathtaking. Dorothy, you have so many creative ideas and Nancy is a master seamstress. The workmanship is first class. I wish they could hang all year!
